The Tucson Treasure Hunt is a flying event to test the pilot and crew in flying, spying, and identifying from the air.  This is not a race, but a scavenger hunt in the sky.  You will receive a set of clues that will guide you around a course.  Each clue is a riddle to be answered by finding a landmark or item on the Phoenix Sectional Chart.  You may be directed to a secret airport.  At the end of the circuit, you will hand in your clues, play your poker hands, and break for lunch.  The crew with the most right answers wins.  There will be trophies and cash prizes – you might brush up on your spot landings, too.

The event is conducted under FAA VFR flight rules.  The rain date will be Sunday October 27.  The hunt is open to all pilots with at least a private pilot certificate.  Another pilot or observer is required.  This person does not have to be a certificated pilot.

Location:  The event will start at Tucson International Airport (KTUS).  When you land, request  parking at Atlantic Aviation. They will be expecting you.  The phone number for Atlantic is 520-889-0593. The Executive Terminal at Tucson International is closing, but you can park on the Executive Ramp to tie-down, and call Atlantic on 122.95 and they will bring the van to pick you up.  Tied downs for the first night is free, and the second night is $10.

A block of rooms, for the Tucson Ninety Nines, have been set aside at the Hilton Garden Inn for both  Friday and  Saturday night. Hilton Garden Inn Welcomes the group starting on October 25, 2013.  The Saturday Night Awards banquet Saturday night will also be held there.  Departures home will begin Sunday morning.  For anyone driving in, the address of the Hilton Garden Inn is:

After arriving Friday, call the hotel for a ride 520-741-0505.  (It’s about 5 minutes away).  There will be a check- in table in the lobby from 1200 to 1630.  Additional poker hands can be purchased there.  Happy Hour starts downstairs at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 1800 on our own at the All American Grill at the hotel, or anywhere else we choose to go.   Saturday morning, we’ll all meet at Atlantic Aviation at Tucson International at 0730 for a safety/weather briefing and start the departures at 0800.  There will be a BBQ lunch available (see registration information) when you complete the course at the Benson Airport.  You should be arriving there between 1100 and 1200.   Lunch will be served from 1100 to 1330.  After lunch and everyone has played their poker hands, we’ll meet back at the Hilton for Happy Hour, starting at 1700, and the awards banquet at 1800.

There will be additional information in your hunt packet when you register, including how far to plan for fuel stop, etc.  We look forward to seeing you for flying and fun!
